On Saturday 22 August, the courtyard of Castle Blatna will come alive with an exceptional open-air concert, combining the beauty of its historic setting with music filled with emotion and joie de vivre. Beneath the summer evening sky, the illuminated castle courtyard will provide a breathtaking backdrop, enhancing every note and creating an unforgettable musical experience.

Audiences can look forward to opera, operetta, waltzes, polkas and well-known melodies from the 19th and 20th centuries. The programme brings together works by Johann Strauss, Giuseppe Verdi, Giacomo Puccini, George Gershwin, Emmerich Kálmán, Jules Massenet and other composers. Donau Philharmonie Wien specialises in recreating the original sound and musical tradition of the turn of the 20th century.

Programme

The concert will open with the overture to Die Winzerbraut by Czech composer Oskar Nedbal. The first half will also feature Je veux vivre from Gounod's Roméo et Juliette, Carl Michael Ziehrer's lively polka Leben heißt geniessen and Karel Komzák's march Vindobona - Wein in Wien.

The programme continues with one of George Gershwin's most famous songs, Summertime, as well as music from Emmerich Kálmán's operetta Die Csárdásfürstin.

After the interval, the evening turns to Johann Strauss and his celebrated operetta Die Fledermaus, including its overture and the famous Mein Herr Marquis. Audiences will also hear Puccini's O mio babbino caro from Gianni Schicchi, an aria from Massenet's Werther, the duet Im chambre séparée from Richard Heuberger's Der Opernball, and Strauss's waltz Wein, Weib und Gesang.

The evening will culminate with the famous drinking song Libiamo ne' lieti calici from Verdi's La Traviata - a fitting finale to a programme celebrating wine and the joy of life.
